Pure schist plot from AOC La Londe. The schists are micaceous, ranging in color from ochre to red, with a layered appearance veined with white quartz. It is a fine-grained rock, composed mainly of clay flakes and tiny fragments of other minerals, all laminated by the compression of clay at the heart of the earth’s crust.
2022: A summer with very hot days and cool nights, which didn’t spare the vines, and even less the Domaine’s organization. All the more so as there were numerous threats of thunderstorms, and hail was not far off!
The well-established vines, with deep, well-developed root systems on old soils, surprisingly stood up well to this year’s climatic conditions. The young vines at the top of the slopes, on the other hand, suffered more.
A comment often made by those who work in the vineyards: when the start of the season is dry, the impact of rising temperatures and lack of water is less significant than when the start of the season is wet. This would seem to indicate that vines know how to dose their resources to cope with a drought of varying duration. The answer… only the vine knows!
It was a harvest that required a great deal of intervention, with a team that was always on the lookout and mobilized: more than 300 samples were taken to harvest each plot at the right time; schedules were constantly modified by contrasting maturities depending on the grape variety.
The harvest is carried out respecting technical criteria to determine the perfect balance between the PH, total acidity and the phenolic maturity in the must. Destemmed, the grapes are then pneumatically pressed at a low pressure. A selection of the first juices is blended and then racked and put in casks.
For 50% of the juice, fermentation takes place in 300 liters French oak barrels (oak from the forest of Tronçais in the Allier region, Nièvre and the Vosges).
The wine is then racked and matured for 6-8 months with regular ‘bâtonnage’ or stirring of the lees. Finally it is blended, fined and filtered and is ready for bottling in April.
An intense, luminous yellow-gold colour
This wine shows expressive warm aromas of toast, vanilla, dried rose and cedar. The bouquet of delicate aromas then opens up to notes of white-fleshed fruit and small red berries.
On the palate, the wine is rich and full-bodied. A sensation of crisp, elegant freshness completes the balance dominated by the wine’s texture. The lingering finish is enhanced by the subtle wood influence and hints of candied citrus and pear.
Quite simply, silk! Creamy.
