Mourvèdre, our region’s great red grape variety, excels when it has “its feet by the water and its head in the sun”. It takes its time to ripen, and is harvested at the very end of the season, in September. You can recognize it by its aromatic notes of black fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant, spices such as the aromatic plants of our garrigue: thyme and rosemary, or even licorice and cocoa beans. Its acidity is quite low. It produces smooth, well-structured wines for laying down to age.

At Figuière, we blend it with Syrah in our red cuvées, to bring structure and complexity, suppleness and greater drinkability in their youth. It is also blended into our rosé wines, giving them more structure and vinosity, making them ideal for a meal or a few years of cellaring.

Cinsault, the “Maestro” of Provence rosés! Traditionally blended with Grenache, it produces light, aromatic and refreshing rosés. It brings aromas of red fruit, grenadine, vine peaches and red currant. It contributes finesse and freshness, and a fine balance between liveliness and roundness. At Figuière, it accompanies all our rosés!

Rolle (or Vermentino). Although we can no longer display it on our labels, as it is reserved for 2 Italian appellations, Vermentino, known as Rolle in Provence, remains the great grape variety of our Provence white wines. It loves heat, which suits us just fine. It thrives on our schistose soils, delivering the minerality so characteristic of La Londe and Collobrières. It brings delicate notes of lemon zest and white flowers, enhanced by herbaceous aromas of dill and even basil. Its low acidity makes it light and fresh. At Figuière, it is vinified on its own or blended with Ugni Blanc and Sémillon.

Ugni-blanc, the grape variety of Cognac, which, along with Sémillon, originally from Aquitaine, ripen in our regions!

At Figuière, we like to experiment. New, even more resistant grape varieties will soon be planted!
